Cultural Worker

Naima is the founder of the nonprofit organizations ALANAs Vermont. She served as the executive director of the ALANA Community Organization for 15 years. ALANA is Vermont’s first non-profit organization founded by a woman of color with proven fiscal management reputation, proven skills and capability in fund development, and a well-known and successful track record in the delivery of federally-funded, private and individual community services. ALANA received recognition as a promising practice in bridging the racial divide in our nation during the President Bill Clinton administration for its innovative programs for women, youth, health and economic development programs.

She is the Diversity Director at The Putney School, a Vermont progressive independent high school. She is also the lead diversity training specialist for Wade Consulting Services, LLC, a minority and woman-owned small business enterprise which she started in 2002. She has taught Language Arts and English as Second Language (ESL), both in the U.S. and abroad. Naima also serves as an appointed council member and advisor on The Governor’s Diversity and Equity Workforce Council.

S E R V I C E S :
•  Provide diversity training programs and educational services for cultural groups and educational
institutions through a statewide model for delivery of cultural and diverse information
•  Facilitate and teach youth the understanding of our interconnections in practical ways
•  Demonstrate in Vermont a best-practice-model relevance in bridging the diversity divide and the menu of "-isms" to current cultural context
•  Prepare the future workforce across cultural and generational differences
•  Raise awareness about race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, and socio-economic class. One way I do this is through the individual Cultural Lens™ which will provide you with a crucial, focused look into your background conceptualization factors that have influenced your views on culture and differences—tracing it, facing it, and transforming it.
•  Engage in essential skill-building activities focused on conflict-resolution, negotiation, and open dialogue
•  Examine different communication styles to break through cultural and language barriers by exploring situations such as challenges faced by people with Limited English Proficiency (LEP)
